Profresh Plus - TMR Stabilizer

Profresh Plus is a dry granular buffered propionic acid based preservative for use as a TMR stabilizer and in processed animal feeds and silage.

Profresh Plus contains a slow release formula to give effective prolonged control of aerobic spoilage yeast and mold growth in animal feeds, resulting in higher retained feed value for livestock.

Problems of Spoilage Yeasts and Moulds in Feed

Microbial deterioration of grain, feedstuffs and animal feed is of great concern to all segments of the animal feed industry. Moulds are a group of microorganisms that cause deterioration of grains or feeds, various infections in livestock and intoxication due to the formation of mycotoxins in feedstuffs. It is reported that as much as 25% of the world's cereal grains may be significantly contaminated with mycotoxins.

Growth at relative humidity in excess of 70% Rapid growth in presence of available nutrients. Oxygen is the most limiting factor affecting growth. Nutritional Impact of Yeast and Mould Growth in Feed

When mould growth in feed goes unchecked, significant losses of feed value can result:

Vitamin content may be reduced by a third.
Amino acid content may be reduced by 20%
Energy content of mouldy grain may be less than half that of “clean” grain.
Many of the moulds commonly found in feedstuffs are capable of producing mycotoxins that can impact animal performance, health and fertility.

Controlling the Growth of Spoilage Organisms.
Effective control of mould growth is the key to preventing deterioration and/or mycotoxin formation in stored grains or feeds. Propionic acid has been widely used in both food and feed industries as a mould inhibitor because of its broad spectrum of mould inhibition and low toxicity.

Application Rates – In Feed

Add Profresh Plus to feed and total mixed rations at the time of processing at the following rates. High levels of yeast and mould contamination may require higher levels of treatment to achieve adequate control within feeds.

Application Rates – In Silage

Profresh Plus can also be successfully used to reduce spoilage in silage during storage.

In Clamps and Bunkers:

Apply Profresh Plus to top 15 cm layer of silage.
Apply 2.5 kg Profresh < strong>Plus per tonne of silage in top layers.
Apply 300g Profresh Plus per square metre of silage surface.
Apply 600g Profresh Plus per square metre of silage shoulder surface.
Example: A bunker 9 metres wide and 18 metres deep = 162 sq. metres @ 0.3 kg/sq. metre, requires 49 kg of Profresh Plus over the surface.
